TL;DR

Reddit shows two public stats on every community: weekly visitors, a rolling 28-day average of unique users per 7 days, and weekly contributions, the posts and comments made in the last 7 days. They replaced the old member count, online count and rank. Moderators see more in Mod Insights, including pageviews, daily unique visitors, joins and leaves, team activity and removals. Third-party stat sites run their own collection and are not Reddit data. For finding leads, the stat that counts is how many people ask about your problem each week, which you measure with search.

What subreddit stats does Reddit show?

The subreddit stats Reddit shows to every visitor are weekly visitors and weekly contributions, two numbers that replaced the old member count, online count and rank on community pages. Reddit's help article Understanding weekly visitors and contributions defines both:

  • Weekly visitors "show how many unique users visited the community in the past 7 days based on a 28 day rolling average." The count leaves out people using anonymous browsing mode in the Reddit apps, and bots.
  • Weekly contributions "show the number of posts and comments made in the community in the past 7 days." Removed posts and comments do not count.

Read weekly contributions first when you size up a community for conversations. Visitors tell you how many people look. Contributions tell you how many people write, and only people who write can ask the question you want to answer.

The new stats appear on community homepages and post pages in the iOS and Android apps and on the updated reddit.com for desktop and mobile web. Reddit says the old stats will be removed from old.reddit.com and "the new activity stats will not be added to this platform."

Why did Reddit replace the subreddit member count?

Reddit replaced the subreddit member count because, in its own words, total subscribers, online now and rank "are often more indicative of a community's age versus activity." The member count "included every user who had ever joined a community, even if they hadn't visited in years."

Expect the new number to be lower. Reddit's FAQ on the change says weekly visitors only counts people who visited in the last 7 days, and "While this number is typically lower, it provides a clearer picture of a community's current activity level." A screenshot or blog post quoting a subreddit's member count describes the old system.

What do Mod Insights show about a subreddit?

Mod Insights show a community's moderators traffic, growth, team activity and removals that visitors never see. Reddit's Mod Insights article splits them into three sections:

  • Activity, with pageviews, daily unique visitors, subscribers and unsubscribers, as trends over the past 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 12 months. Unique visits break down by platform.
  • Team Health, with active moderators over 7, 30 or 365 days and each moderator's action counts.
  • Reports and Removals, with content published, user reports, reports by reason, admin removals and how much safety filters catch.

Moderators open Mod Insights from the mod tools hub on reddit.com under Overview, from Insights under Content & Contribution in the apps, or from Moderation Tools at the bottom of the sidebar on old Reddit.

Mod Insights and the public stats count visitors differently. Reddit's help centre says the unique visitors figure in Mod Insights "is currently an average of daily unique visitors over the selected time period, not a total," while weekly visitors "is a net-new number that is a rolling 28-day average." The two will not match. When a moderator shares a visitor number, ask which of the two it is.

The member count still lives in Mod Insights for now. Reddit says "this information will be removed in the future."

What do post and comment insights add?

Post and comment insights give you stats for your own posts and comments, so you can measure the replies you write in a community. Reddit's Post & Comment Insights article lists, for posts, upvotes, comments, shares, reposts, awards and views, "including a graph of views-per-hour over the post's first 24h." For comments it lists upvotes, upvote ratio, replies, shares, awards and views with "a geographical breakdown of where views are coming from."

Use comment insights after you answer a buyer's question. A reply with views but no upvotes and no replies missed the point of the thread. A reply with replies asking for detail found a live need. Moderators see post insights for every post in their communities, so the numbers on your posts are visible to them too.

Where do third-party subreddit stats sites get their numbers?

Third-party subreddit stats sites get their numbers from their own data collection, not from Reddit's stats, and Reddit's help centre does not describe or vouch for any of them. When a third-party site shows a subscriber chart, a growth rank or a "most active hours" table, treat it as that site's estimate with its own gaps and method.

Check two things before you trust one. First, whether it still reports member counts as the headline number, which Reddit itself has stopped showing because it measures a community's age. Second, whether its figures cover the same window as Reddit's 7-day stats. When the two disagree, Reddit's weekly visitors and weekly contributions on the community page are the first-party numbers.

Reddit Pro is Reddit's own source for one more stat. Its Trends page lists the communities talking about a keyword you track, with each one's members and "Total number of times a keyword has been mentioned in the community during your selected time period." It covers only public, SFW, English conversations.

Which subreddit stats matter for finding leads?

The subreddit stat that matters for finding leads is how many posts each week ask about the problem you solve, and Reddit does not display it, so you count it yourself with search. A community with 5,000 weekly visitors and three buyer questions a week beats one with 500,000 visitors and none. Weekly contributions tell you a community talks. Your own count tells you it talks about your problem.

Measure it in five steps:

  1. Read the community's weekly visitors and weekly contributions on its page. Skip it if contributions are near zero.
  2. Read its rules for self-promotion before anything else. The guide to the Reddit self-promotion rule covers what to look for.
  3. Search inside it with subreddit:name and your problem words, as shown in the guide to Reddit search operators.
  4. Sort by New, set the time filter to the past week and count the posts where someone asks for help.
  5. Repeat for a month. The communities with a steady weekly count go on your watch list.

That count also tells you how much time a community deserves. Most readers never post, which the 90-9-1 rule puts into numbers, so a single good answer in a busy thread reaches far more people than the one who asked. The guide to the best subreddits for marketing has starting points for the search.

What each stat tells you about a community
1
Weekly visitors. How many people read a reply.
2
Weekly contributions. How many people write, and so how many can ask.
3
Your weekly count. How many posts ask about the problem you solve.
Reddit shows the first two. You measure the third with search.

How does RedReplier score subreddits?

RedReplier scores subreddits on activity and fit rather than size. Describe your product once, and subreddit suggestions return a ranked list with a fit score from 0 to 100 for each community, built from three signals: how closely its recurring conversations overlap with what you sell, how active it is, weighing active members and daily posts over raw subscriber counts, and how its rules treat a post like yours. Communities that ban self-promotion get an avoid badge with the exact rule behind it. Once a subreddit makes your list, RedReplier watches it for your keywords and ranks each match by buyer intent. Matches land on your RedReplier dashboard within minutes of a post or comment going live, and email alerts go out as digests on a cadence you set per keyword, from hourly to daily.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see stats for a subreddit?

Open the community page in the Reddit app or on reddit.com. Reddit shows weekly visitors and weekly contributions there. Detailed traffic, growth and removal stats live in Mod Insights, which only the community's moderators can open.

What does weekly visitors mean on Reddit?

Weekly visitors is the number of unique users who visited the community in the past 7 days, based on a 28-day rolling average. It excludes bots and people using anonymous browsing mode in the Reddit apps. It replaced the member count on community pages.

Can I still see how many members a subreddit has?

Not on the community page. Reddit replaced the member count with weekly visitors and weekly contributions. Moderators still see the member count in Mod Insights, and Reddit says it will be removed from there too.

Can non-moderators see Mod Insights?

No. Mod Insights sit inside a community's mod tools, so only its moderators see pageviews, daily unique visitors, subscriber changes, team activity and removals. Everyone else sees weekly visitors and weekly contributions.

Are third-party subreddit stats accurate?

Third-party stats sites collect their own data, and Reddit's help centre does not describe their methods. Compare any figure with the weekly visitors and weekly contributions on the community page, which are Reddit's own numbers.

Which subreddit stat best predicts leads?

None of Reddit's displayed stats does. Count the posts per week that ask about the problem you solve, using subreddit: search sorted by New with a past-week time filter. A small community with steady buyer questions beats a large one without them.

Why is weekly visitors lower than the old member count?

Weekly visitors only counts people who visited in the last 7 days. The old member count included every user who had ever joined, even if they hadn't visited in years. Reddit says the new number is typically lower but gives a clearer picture of a community's current activity.

Do removed posts count in weekly contributions?

Removed posts and comments do not count. Weekly contributions show the number of posts and comments made in the community in the past 7 days, with removals left out.

Does old Reddit show weekly visitors and weekly contributions?

Not on old.reddit.com. Reddit says it will remove the old stats there and that "the new activity stats will not be added to this platform." The new stats appear on community homepages and post pages in the iOS and Android apps and on the updated reddit.com for desktop and mobile web.

Trends lists the communities talking about a keyword you track, with each one's members and the total number of times the keyword was mentioned in your selected time period. It covers only public, SFW, English conversations.
