Hiding a Reddit post removes it from your own view of subreddit listings and adds it to a private hidden list that only you can see. You hide from the post's overflow menu, or with the H key on reddit.com. Reddit's help centre lists hidden posts among the activity you can view on reddit.com, but it gives no current step-by-step path to a Hidden tab on reddit.com or in the apps. Reddit's archived code gives old Reddit a Hidden tab on your own profile, and the API returns the list at /user/{username}/hidden. Since August 2026 Reddit is testing an X icon that replaces Hide for some users.

What are Reddit hidden posts?

Hiding a post takes it out of your own feeds and subreddit listings and files it in Reddit hidden posts, a private list tied to your account that nobody else can see. Reddit's Data API reference for POST /api/hide defines the action in one line: it "removes it from the user's default view of subreddit listings." For anyone who replies to Reddit threads by hand, hiding is the triage step after reading a thread: once you have answered it or decided to skip it, hide it, and your next pass through the subreddit shows only threads you have not seen.

Hiding changes nothing for anyone else. The post stays public, keeps its votes and comments, and its author is not told. Reddit's help centre describes no notification for a hide.

The phrase "hidden posts" also covers two other things people search for. If your own post is invisible to other people, it was removed by a moderator or filter, or your account is hidden, which our guides to removed vs deleted on Reddit and the Reddit shadowban cover. If you want posts from certain subreddits off your profile, that is a profile setting, covered further down.

How do you hide a post on Reddit?

You hide a post from its overflow menu, the three-dot menu on the post, on reddit.com and in the apps. Reddit also gives you a keyboard shortcut and an API endpoint.

WhereHow to hideHow to undo
reddit.comOverflow menu on the post, then HideUnhide it from your hidden list
iOS and Android appsOverflow menu on the post, then HideNo steps in Reddit's help centre
reddit.com keyboardPress H on a postNot listed as a shortcut
Data APIPOST /api/hide with post fullnamesPOST /api/unhide

The H shortcut comes from Reddit's keyboard shortcuts article, which lists it as "Hide post" and says hotkeys run only on the current reddit.com interface. The overflow menu location is confirmed by Reddit's own changelog, which describes "the Hide option in the overflow menu" when announcing a test that removes it.

The API takes posts, which it calls links, as a comma-separated list. Reddit's open-source code, archived on GitHub in 2017, accepted up to 50 posts in one hide or unhide call.

Where can you see your hidden posts on Reddit today?

Reddit's help centre lists hidden posts as something you can view on reddit.com, but it gives no current step-by-step path to them on reddit.com or in the iOS and Android apps. The data access article includes "Posts and comments you've hidden" in its list of activity, and says that while some information is in the app, "it's easiest to find what you're looking for by visiting reddit.com on your computer's web browser and logging in to your account."

Compare that with saved posts. Reddit's help article on saving gives exact steps for both reddit.com, "go to your profile and click on the saved tab," and the apps, through the menu with three lines on your profile. No equivalent article exists for hidden posts, so check the documented routes in this order:

  1. On reddit.com, open your profile while logged in and check its tabs for Hidden. The data access article groups hidden posts with your saved and voted activity, though it does not name the tab.
  2. On old Reddit, open your own profile. Reddit's archived code adds Hidden and Saved tabs to the profile menu for the account's owner.
  3. Through the API, request GET /user/{username}/hidden, which Reddit's reference lists with the other user history listings.
  4. For a full export, Reddit's data access article links a data request form and says your data "may take up to 30 days to prepare."

The hidden list is private in the same way the saved list is. In Reddit's archived code, the profile controller returns a 403 Forbidden error for the hidden listing to anyone except the logged-in owner and Reddit admins.

What is Reddit's X icon test, and does it replace Hide?

Reddit is testing an X icon on posts that replaces the Hide option for a small group of users. Reddit's August 12, 2026 changelog says the experiment "will also remove the Hide option in the overflow menu," and that the X does more than hide: "we'll not only hide the piece of content, we'll also take that as a signal to show you less of that type of content in the future."

The test started on 10 August 2026, and Reddit describes it as "an experiment for a small subset of global redditors on all platforms." An overflow menu with no Hide option is the sign of that test. An Undo option appears right after you tap the X, and Show fewer posts like this stays in the overflow menu during the test.

For reply triage, the difference matters. Plain Hide is a private filing action, while the X also trains your home feed away from the topic. Tapping X on every thread you have already answered tells Reddit you dislike the topic you are trying to find buyers in.

How do hidden posts differ from hiding content on your profile?

Hiding a post filters your view of Reddit, and hiding content on your profile filters what other people see of your activity. They are separate settings. Reddit's profile settings article describes a Content and activity setting that lets you "customize which subreddits' content is visible on your profile."

Hiding a postHiding subreddits on your profile
What it affectsYour own listingsWhat visitors see on your profile
Who it hides fromYouEveryone viewing your profile
Where it livesOverflow menu on a postCurate your profile in profile settings
What stays visibleThe post, to everyone elseYour posts, in their communities and search

The profile setting does not hide your activity from moderators. Reddit's article says that when you post, comment or send mod mail in a community, "that mod team will have access to your full profile content history for 28 days after the interaction," and it adds "regardless of your settings."

How do you use hidden posts to triage threads for replies?

Hide every thread you have finished with, whether you replied or decided to skip it, so the subreddit's New listing shows only threads you have not judged yet. This turns a busy subreddit into a short list each time you open it.

  1. Open the subreddit sorted by New, or a Reddit search for your topic sorted by new.
  2. Read each thread far enough to decide: answer now, answer later, or skip.
  3. Answer now, then press H or choose Hide.
  4. Save the answer-later threads instead of hiding them, so they wait on your Saved tab.
  5. Hide the skips too, so you do not read them a second time tomorrow.

The API has a matching switch. Reddit's reference says passing show=all on a listing disables filters "such as 'hide links that I have voted on'," which brings filtered posts back when you need a complete view.

One thread, three outcomes
Answer nowReply, then press H or choose Hide
Answer laterSave it so it waits on your Saved tab
SkipHide it so you do not read it again tomorrow
Hide what you have finished with, and save what you will answer later.

How does RedReplier handle thread triage?

RedReplier keeps triage outside Reddit, so hiding a thread on Reddit and tracking it in RedReplier do not conflict. RedReplier watches Reddit, X, Bluesky, Facebook and Hacker News for your keywords and ranks each match by buyer intent, product fit and freshness. Matches land on your RedReplier dashboard within minutes of a post or comment going live, and email alerts go out as digests on a cadence you set per keyword, from hourly to daily. RedReplier tracks each match as new, approved or rejected, a status you set after deciding whether a reply is worth it, and the Reddit lead generation workflow ends with a drafted reply that you edit and post yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see my hidden posts on Reddit?

Reddit's help centre lists hidden posts among the activity you can view on reddit.com when logged in, without step-by-step instructions. Reddit's archived code gives old Reddit a Hidden tab on your own profile, and the API returns the list at /user/{username}/hidden.

Can I see hidden posts on the Reddit app?

Reddit's help centre gives app steps for saved posts but none for hidden posts. Its data access article says some information is in the app and that reddit.com on a computer is the easiest place to find your activity, so use the browser for your hidden list.

Does hiding a post on Reddit notify the author?

No. Reddit's help centre describes no notification for hiding, and the API defines hide as removing a post from your own default view of listings. The post, its votes and its comments stay the same for everyone else.

How do I unhide a post on Reddit?

Find the post in your hidden list and unhide it there, or call POST /api/unhide with the post's fullname. If you are in Reddit's X icon test, tap Undo right after the X to bring the post back.

Why is there no Hide option on my Reddit posts?

Reddit's August 12, 2026 changelog gives the cause: an X icon experiment that removes Hide from the overflow menu for a small subset of users and replaces it with an X that hides the post and shows you less of that kind of content.

Can other people see the posts I hide on Reddit?

No. Your hidden list is private. In Reddit's archived code, anyone other than you or a Reddit admin who requests your hidden listing gets a 403 Forbidden error.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to hide a post on Reddit?

Press H on a post on reddit.com. Reddit's keyboard shortcuts article lists it as "Hide post" and says hotkeys run only on the current reddit.com interface. In the apps, use the overflow menu on the post.

What does the X icon do on Reddit posts?

The X icon is an experiment that started on 10 August 2026 for a small subset of redditors on all platforms. Tapping it hides the post and tells Reddit to show you less of that type of content. An Undo option appears right after you tap.

Can I hide several Reddit posts at once?

Through the API, yes. POST /api/hide takes posts as a comma-separated list, and Reddit's archived open-source code accepted up to 50 in one call. The overflow menu and the H key act on one post at a time.

Should I hide or save a Reddit thread I want to answer later?

Save it. Hide the threads you have finished with, whether you replied or skipped them, and save the answer-later threads so they wait on your Saved tab.
