Where Reddit Saved Posts Go, and How to Use Them as a Reply QueueWhere Reddit Saved Posts Go, and How to Use Them as a Reply Queue

TL;DR

7 min read

Saving a post or comment puts it on a private list under the Saved tab of your Reddit profile on desktop, and under the menu on your profile in the iOS and Android apps. Only you can see it. Reddit's help centre states no cap on saved items, but Reddit's archived source code kept each saved listing to the newest 1,000 items, and Reddit has never confirmed whether that still holds. Used as a reply queue, save the threads worth answering, reply while they are still open, then unsave them so the list stays short.

What are Reddit saved posts?

Saving a thread adds it to Reddit saved posts, a private list on your profile that holds every post and comment you saved, newest first, so you can come back to it later. Reddit's help article How do I save a post and where does it get saved? opens with the whole idea: "You can save any post you want to revisit later." If you reply to Reddit threads by hand, the saved list works as a reply queue: save the threads worth answering while you skim, and answer them when you have time to write properly.

Comments save too. Reddit's Data API reference for POST /api/save reads "Save a link or comment," and adds that "saved things are kept in the user's saved listing for later perusal." Saving a single comment is useful when the buyer's question sits deep in a thread rather than in the post itself.

How do you save a post on Reddit?

You save a post from its overflow menu, the three-dot menu on the post, on both desktop and the app. Reddit's help article gives the steps for each platform, and Reddit's keyboard shortcuts and API add two more routes.

WhereHow to saveHow to find it again
reddit.comOverflow menu on the post, then SaveYour profile, then the Saved tab
iOS and Android appsOverflow menu at the top right, then SaveYour profile page, the menu with three lines, then Saved
reddit.com keyboardPress S on a post or commentSame Saved tab
Data APIPOST /api/save with the item's fullnameGET /user/{username}/saved

The keyboard shortcut comes from Reddit's keyboard shortcuts article, which lists S as "Save/Unsave post or comment" and notes that hotkeys work only on the current reddit.com interface. Pressing S again unsaves the item. Reddit's data access article also lists "Posts and comments you've saved" among the activity you see when logged in on reddit.com.

Can other people see your Reddit saved posts?

No. Your saved list is visible to you alone, and Reddit's help centre describes no notification to the author when you save their post. Reddit's open-source code, archived on GitHub in 2017, makes the privacy explicit: the profile controller returns a 403 Forbidden error for the saved and hidden listings to anyone who is not the logged-in owner of the account or a Reddit admin. The same code only shows the Saved and Hidden tabs in the profile menu to the account's owner and Reddit admins.

Saving is the opposite of an upvote in this respect. An upvote is a public signal that feeds the thread's score and its rank in a listing, while a save changes nothing anyone else sees.

Is there a limit on Reddit saved posts?

Reddit's help centre states no limit on saved posts, and the only number on record comes from Reddit's archived source code, which kept each saved listing to the 1,000 newest items. In that code, r2/models/query_cache.py sets MAX_CACHED_ITEMS = 1000, and saved posts and saved comments are two separate cached queries, get_saved_links and get_saved_comments, merged into one Saved tab. When a cached listing passes 1,000 entries, the oldest ones are pruned from it.

Reddit has not said whether the current site uses the same cap. Third-party guides repeat 1,000 as a hard limit, but that figure traces back to the 2017 code, not to any page Reddit maintains today. The safe reading is that the Saved tab shows your recent saves, and the oldest ones fall off a long list.

The API pages through the list 100 items at a time. Reddit's reference for GET /user/{username}/saved gives limit a maximum of 100, and you follow the after value to fetch the next page. A saved list that grows past a few hundred threads stops being a queue anyway, which is the practical case for unsaving threads once you have dealt with them.

Can you sort Reddit saved posts into folders?

Reddit's help centre describes no folders or categories for saved posts today. The Data API still documents a category parameter on POST /api/save and a GET /api/saved_categories endpoint, but in Reddit's archived code, categories were a paid Reddit Gold feature: POST_save drops the category for any account without Gold. The current help article lists only Save and the Saved tab.

For reply work, folders matter less than order. The Saved tab lists items by when you saved them, so the threads you saved this morning sit at the top, where you need them.

How do you use saved posts to triage threads for replies?

Use saved posts as the holding area between finding a thread and answering it. Triage on Reddit is two passes: a fast pass to decide which threads deserve an answer, and a slow pass to write the answers. Saving connects the two.

  1. Skim new threads from your subreddits or from Reddit search sorted by new, and save each one where someone asks a question you can answer well.
  2. Skip threads you will not answer instead of saving them, so the list holds only real candidates.
  3. Open the Saved tab when you sit down to write, and start from the top, since the newest saves are the freshest threads.
  4. Check that each thread is still open before writing. A moderator can lock a thread at any time, and Reddit's Community settings article says users "will not be able to vote or comment on posts older than six months" when a community archives old posts.
  5. Read the subreddit's rules, then write and post the reply.
  6. Unsave the thread once you have replied, or once you decide not to.

Search is the other half of the same habit. Reddit search operators narrow a query to one subreddit, author or phrase, and saving the threads a search surfaces is faster than rerunning the search every day.

Two ways to run your Saved tab
Unsave after replying
  • The list holds only threads still waiting for an answer
  • Threads saved this morning sit at the top
  • The queue stays short enough to work through
Never unsave
  • The list grows past a few hundred threads and stops being a queue
  • Older saves can fall off a long list if the 1,000 cap still holds
Reddit has not confirmed whether the 1,000 cap applies today.

How do saved posts compare with hiding and upvoting?

Saving, hiding and upvoting are three separate actions with different audiences. The table sets them side by side for a thread you have read.

ActionWhat it doesWho sees itUse it for
SaveAdds the post or comment to your Saved tabYou onlyThreads you plan to answer
HideRemoves the post from your default view of listingsYou onlyThreads you have handled or will skip
UpvoteAdds to the score and the thread's rankEveryone, as part of the scoreThreads you found useful

Hiding comes from the Data API's description of POST /api/hide: it "removes it from the user's default view of subreddit listings." Save the threads you will answer, and hide the ones you never want to see again.

Does RedReplier keep its own list of saved threads?

Yes. Every RedReplier plan includes saved Reddit opportunities, so the threads you plan to answer stay in one place outside Reddit's own Saved tab. RedReplier watches Reddit, X, Bluesky, Facebook and Hacker News for your keywords and ranks each match by buyer intent. Matches land on your RedReplier dashboard within minutes of a post or comment going live, and email alerts go out as digests on a cadence you set per keyword, from hourly to daily. The social media dashboard tracks which threads are reviewed, queued or answered, and RedReplier drafts a reply for each one that you edit and post yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my saved posts on Reddit?

On reddit.com, go to your profile and click the Saved tab. In the iOS and Android apps, open your profile page, tap the menu with three lines near the top right and select Saved.

Are Reddit saved posts private?

Yes. Only you see your saved list. Reddit's archived code returns a Forbidden error for anyone else who requests your saved listing, admins aside, and Reddit's help centre describes no notification when you save someone's post.

What is the maximum number of saved posts on Reddit?

Reddit's help centre states no limit. Reddit's archived code kept each saved listing to the newest 1,000 items, with posts and comments counted separately, and Reddit has not confirmed whether the current site does the same.

Can you save comments on Reddit?

Yes. The Data API's save endpoint is described as "Save a link or comment," and the reddit.com keyboard shortcut S saves or unsaves a post or comment. Saved comments appear in the same Saved tab as posts.

How do I unsave a post on Reddit?

Press S again on the post or comment on reddit.com, which Reddit's shortcut list labels "Save/Unsave post or comment." Through the API, POST /api/unsave "removes the thing from the user's saved listings as well."

Does the author know if I save their post?

Reddit's help centre describes no notification for a save, and a save adds nothing to the post's score. It is a private bookmark, unlike an upvote, which changes the score everyone sees.

Can I sort saved posts into folders on Reddit?

Reddit's help centre describes no folders or categories for saved posts today. The Data API documents a category parameter on POST /api/save, but in Reddit's archived code it was a Reddit Gold feature. The Saved tab lists items by when you saved them, so your newest saves sit at the top.

What is the difference between saving and hiding a post on Reddit?

Saving adds a post or comment to your Saved tab, while hiding removes the post from your default view of listings. Both are visible only to you. Save the threads you plan to answer, and hide the ones you never want to see again.

How do I use saved posts as a reply queue?

Save each thread worth answering while you skim. When you sit down to write, open the Saved tab and start from the top, since the newest saves are the freshest threads. Check the thread is still open, read the subreddit's rules, post your reply, then unsave the thread.

Does RedReplier save Reddit threads outside Reddit's Saved tab?

Yes. Every RedReplier plan includes saved Reddit opportunities, so the threads you plan to answer stay in one place outside Reddit. The social media dashboard tracks which threads are reviewed, queued or answered.
