To watch Reddit from n8n, install the community node n8n-nodes-redreplier in a self-hosted n8n under Settings > Community nodes, paste a redreplier_ token with the Admin or Editor role into the RedReplier API credential, and start a workflow with the RedReplier Trigger. It fires on each new mention of your keywords on Reddit, X, Bluesky, Hacker News or Facebook, with a relevance score from 0 to 100, and the RedReplier node then explains the score, drafts a reply, and approves or rejects the mention.

Most n8n Reddit workflows start with n8n's own Reddit node, and most of them stall at the same place: the node fetches posts, but nothing tells you which of the posts it fetched is someone asking for a product like yours. The RedReplier community node starts one step later. RedReplier watches Reddit, X, Bluesky, Hacker News and Facebook for your keywords, scores each match from 0 to 100 against your product description, and the node hands n8n the matches worth a look.

This guide covers the install, the credential, every operation, and four workflows you can copy. We build RedReplier, and everything below matches version 0.3.0 of the node.

The short version: install n8n-nodes-redreplier under Settings > Community nodes, create an Admin or Editor token at redreplier.com/api-tokens, paste it into the RedReplier API credential, then start a workflow with the RedReplier Trigger and a Minimum Relevance Score of 70.

What is the difference between n8n's Reddit node and the RedReplier node?

n8n's built-in Reddit node is an action node that reads and writes Reddit through your own Reddit credential, while the RedReplier node reads mentions that RedReplier already found, scored and stored for you. The two nodes answer different questions.

The Reddit node fits a workflow that publishes to your own subreddit or pulls one known thread. For finding conversations where someone asks for a tool like yours, you want the matching and the scoring done before n8n sees the data. Our page on RedReplier vs n8n compares building that yourself with the hosted route.

What do you need to monitor Reddit with n8n?

You need a self-hosted n8n instance, a RedReplier workspace with at least one website and its keywords, and a workspace API token. You do not need a Reddit developer app, because RedReplier does the reading.

Every public RedReplier plan, Starter, Pro and Business, includes API access, so the node works on all three. Facebook pages and groups are monitored on Pro and Business only; on Starter the node returns Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News mentions.

The package is on npm as n8n-nodes-redreplier. The node's README lists n8n 1.100 and later as tested and does not cover n8n Cloud, so this guide uses a self-hosted instance.

How do you install the RedReplier node in n8n?

Install it from the n8n editor under Settings > Community nodes > Install. Type n8n-nodes-redreplier as the package name, accept the prompt about installing community code, and click Install. n8n adds two nodes to the panel: RedReplier and RedReplier Trigger.

A corridor of server racks in a data center, illustrating the self-hosted setup where the node gets installed.

Search for "RedReplier" in the node panel to check that the install worked.

How do you connect RedReplier to n8n?

Connect RedReplier to n8n with a workspace token. Create one at redreplier.com/api-tokens, copy the value that starts with redreplier_, and paste it into the API Token field of a new RedReplier API credential. n8n tests the token with a request to GET /workspaces, so a saved credential means the token works.

Give the token the Admin or Editor role. Every RedReplier API call, reads included, needs the redreplier.write permission, and those two roles are the ones that hold it. A Contributor or Viewer token gets a 403 with code: permission_denied on the first call.

A token belongs to one workspace and never does more than the member who created it. If that member leaves the workspace, the API answers 401 with token_issuer_lost_access, and you create a new token under someone who is still there.

What can the RedReplier node do?

The RedReplier node has four resources, and the RedReplier Trigger has one event, New Mention.

ResourceOperations
MentionGet Many, Count, Update Status, Explain
WebsiteCreate, Get, Get Many, Update, Delete, Analyze Description
KeywordAdd, Edit, Enable, Disable, Delete
Alert SettingsGet, Update

Mention > Get Many lists mentions newest first, up to 500 per call, and Mention > Count returns the total for the same filters. Both filter by website, source, keyword, status (New, Approved or Rejected), minimum relevance score and date range. The date range is when RedReplier found the mention, not when it was posted. Low-relevance mentions stay hidden unless you turn on Include Low Relevance.

Mention > Explain returns why a mention scored the way it did and a drafted reply, and RedReplier keeps both on the mention, so a second call returns the same text. Mention > Update Status sets a mention to Approved, Rejected or back to New.

Website > Create starts monitoring a site. It takes the URL, an optional name and description, and a comma-separated keyword list. Leave Description empty and RedReplier scrapes the URL and writes one, which is a paid analysis; turn off Analyze Website to skip it. Keywords past your plan's quota wait as pending.

Keyword > Disable stops monitoring a keyword and keeps its mentions. Keyword > Delete removes the keyword and every mention it found, with no undo, so reach for Disable first.

Alert Settings > Update turns RedReplier's email digest on or off and sets its cadence, from every 15 minutes to every 24 hours. RedReplier raises a cadence your plan does not allow to the fastest one it does.

The RedReplier Trigger polls for new mentions on the schedule you set in n8n. Its filters are website, sources, minimum relevance score and Include Low Relevance, and it only emits mentions whose status is still New.

Workflow 1: send high-intent Reddit mentions to Discord

RedReplier sends its own alerts to email, Slack, Telegram and Notion. Discord is not on that list, so this workflow adds it.

  1. RedReplier Trigger with Sources set to Reddit Post and Reddit Comment, and Minimum Relevance Score set to 70.
  2. HTTP Request node with Method set to POST and URL set to your Discord webhook URL.
  3. Send a JSON body with a content field set to an expression such as {{ $json.relevanceScore }} | {{ $json.title }} {{ $json.url }}, and add {{ $json.relevanceReason }} on a second line.

Each mention carries source, keyword, title, contentText, url, author, subreddit, relevanceScore, relevanceReason, publishedAt and ingestedAt, so you choose what the channel sees. Keep the comment sources on. Most buying questions sit in comments, as our post on buyer intent explains.

Workflow 2: draft a reply and queue it for a person

This workflow puts each strong mention and a drafted reply in a Google Sheet, where someone on your team reads it before anything goes to Reddit.

  1. RedReplier Trigger with Minimum Relevance Score set to 80.
  2. RedReplier, Mention > Explain with Mention ID set to {{ $json.id }}. It returns the mention with relevanceReason and aiReplySuggestion filled in.
  3. Google Sheets, Append Row writes the URL, the score, the reason and the draft.
  4. When the person has replied on Reddit, a second workflow, or the RedReplier app, sets the mention to Approved with Mention > Update Status.

The draft is a starting point. A reply that reads like an ad gets removed in most subreddits, and the Reddit self-promotion rule post covers how much of your own product a reply carries before moderators act.

Workflow 3: email a weekly mention count

This workflow sends you the week's numbers every Monday.

  1. Schedule Trigger runs every Monday at 9:00.
  2. RedReplier, Mention > Count with From set to {{ $now.minus({ days: 7 }) }} and Minimum Relevance Score set to 70 gives the week's total.
  3. A second Mention > Count with Statuses set to Approved shows how many of those your team acted on.
  4. RedReplier, Mention > Get Many with the same From and a limit of 10 lists the newest strong mentions.
  5. Merge joins the three outputs, and a Send Email node sends the summary.

Add one Count node per source if you want the split by Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News.

Workflow 4: clear low scores out of the review queue

This workflow rejects weak matches so the RedReplier mentions page only shows the ones worth reading.

  1. RedReplier Trigger with Include Low Relevance turned on and Minimum Relevance Score left at 0.
  2. IF checks whether {{ $json.relevanceScore }} is below 40.
  3. On the true branch, RedReplier, Mention > Update Status sets the mention to Rejected.

Nothing is lost. Update Status sets a rejected mention back to New, and Mention > Get Many with Statuses set to Rejected lists what the workflow cleared. If you would rather see fewer mentions in the first place, tighten the keywords on the Reddit keyword monitoring side instead.

Which RedReplier step each workflow uses
1
Discord alerts. RedReplier Trigger at score 70, then an HTTP Request to the webhook.
2
Reply queue. RedReplier Trigger at score 80, Mention > Explain, then Google Sheets.
3
Weekly count. Schedule Trigger, two Mention > Count nodes, Mention > Get Many, then email.
4
Queue cleanup. RedReplier Trigger with low relevance on, IF below 40, then Mention > Update Status.
Every workflow reads scored mentions. None of them writes to Reddit.

How does the RedReplier Trigger avoid duplicates and missed mentions?

The RedReplier Trigger records the mentions that already exist on its first poll and emits nothing, so turning a workflow on never floods it with old matches. From the second poll on it emits only mentions it has not seen, and it remembers the last 2,000 mention IDs.

Each poll asks for mentions RedReplier found since the previous poll, plus one extra hour. RedReplier scores a mention a few minutes after it finds it, and the hour of overlap catches a mention that crossed your minimum score late. One poll reads up to 500 mentions, in five pages of 100.

The trigger only returns mentions whose status is New. A mention you already approved or rejected in the RedReplier app never starts the workflow. Fetch Test Event in the editor returns the latest three matching mentions, so you can map fields before the first real poll.

Should an n8n workflow post replies to Reddit for you?

No. RedReplier never posts to Reddit, and the node has no operation that does. n8n's own Reddit node creates comments, so wiring a drafted reply straight into it is technically a few clicks.

Don't. A reply nobody read before it went out is how accounts get banned from the subreddits they need most, and one removed comment in a subreddit you care about costs more than the lead was worth. Keep a person between aiReplySuggestion and Reddit, as Workflow 2 does.

RedReplier never posts to Reddit, so the step between the draft and the reply stays with a person.

What are the alternatives to n8n for RedReplier mentions?

RedReplier also works with Zapier, with Claude and other chat assistants through its MCP server, and with any script through its REST API. All of them take the same redreplier_ token.

Pick n8n when you want the workflow on your own server and next to your other systems. Zapier needs no server, and the Zapier Reddit guide covers its trigger, actions and searches. The agents page has setup steps for the MCP server, and the API introduction lists every endpoint the node calls. If all you want is a digest, RedReplier's own Reddit alerts send one to email, Slack, Telegram or Notion without n8n at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does n8n have a Reddit trigger?

n8n's built-in Reddit node has no trigger, so it does not start a workflow by itself when a new post appears. The RedReplier Trigger from n8n-nodes-redreplier starts a workflow on each new mention of your keywords on Reddit, X, Bluesky, Hacker News or Facebook, polling on the schedule you set in n8n.

Do I need a Reddit API key to monitor Reddit from n8n?

The RedReplier node needs no Reddit API key or Reddit developer app. RedReplier reads Reddit and stores the matches, and n8n only needs one redreplier_ workspace token with the Admin or Editor role.

Which RedReplier token role does an n8n workflow need?

An n8n workflow needs a RedReplier token with the Admin or Editor role, for reads and writes alike. Every RedReplier API call needs the redreplier.write permission, and a Contributor or Viewer token gets a 403 with code: permission_denied.

Can n8n filter Reddit mentions by relevance score?

The RedReplier Trigger and Mention > Get Many both take a Minimum Relevance Score from 0 to 100, and RedReplier applies it before n8n sees the data. Mentions without a score are left out, and Include Low Relevance shows the ones below your website's minimum.

Does the RedReplier node work on n8n Cloud?

The node's README does not cover n8n Cloud, so this guide uses a self-hosted n8n instance. The README lists n8n 1.100 and later as tested. Install it under Settings > Community nodes with the package name n8n-nodes-redreplier.

Does the RedReplier node also cover X, Bluesky and Hacker News?

The RedReplier node returns mentions from Reddit posts, Reddit comments, X, Bluesky, Hacker News, Facebook and Facebook groups. Facebook monitoring is on the Pro and Business plans; Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News are on every plan.

What happens to old mentions when I turn on the RedReplier Trigger?

On its first poll the trigger records the mentions that already exist and emits nothing, so a new workflow never floods you with old matches. From the second poll on it emits only mentions it has not seen. It remembers the last 2,000 mention IDs.

Can the RedReplier node post a reply to Reddit?

RedReplier never posts to Reddit, and the node has no operation that does. n8n's own Reddit node can create comments, but a reply nobody read before it went out is how accounts get banned. Keep a person between aiReplySuggestion and Reddit.

What is the difference between Disable and Delete for a keyword in n8n?

Keyword > Disable stops monitoring the keyword and keeps the mentions it already found. Keyword > Delete removes the keyword and every mention it found, with no undo. Reach for Disable first.

Which RedReplier plans include API access for the n8n node?

Starter, Pro and Business all include API access, so the node works on every public plan. Facebook pages and groups are monitored on Pro and Business only. On Starter the node returns Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News mentions.
