**Is anyone building a free, cross-device note app that auto-organizes with AI - no prompts needed?**

Looking for something like Obsidian (local-first, sync) + Mem.ai (auto-organization) but without the paywalls. Mem.ai is the closest I've found, but the free tier is basically unusable (25 notes/month). Obsidian has no native AI and its sync costs extra. Has anyone built — or know of — something that:
- Syncs across devices for free
- Uses AI to automatically tag/link/organize notes without manual commands
- Doesn't lock core features behind a subscription Open source would be ideal. Happy to be an early tester.
(And if nobody's doing this yet, guess I'll have to build it myself lol)

Looking for Free Alternatives to mem.ai

I've been using mem.ai v1.0 for 2 years now, and the new version is going to be paid only after the current testing with users. Also their roadmap is always very vague, they took out a lot of core functionalities that really made it a true productivity tool, and focussing almost exclusively on the chat (AI) functionality (which was the base of their offering from the get go). My current workflow is as below: CAPTURERaindrop Superlist Telegram Signal Amazing Screenshot extension Email (occasionally) otter Loom SORTINGRaindrop mem (inbox) Superlist for tasks and light noting on the go PROCESSINGmem for overall note taking Craft for more in depth compartmentalisation of info (with the toggle function and card system, but overall a slow app and lots of mouse clicking for simple formatting options) Superlist for tasks and light noting on the go Miro for mindmapping Milanote for a more visual and encompassing representation of a project or an overview of company with some level of granularity As an example on note taking: today, I attended a webinar. For that, I needed to have a meeting template to organise content such as title, origin, time/date, organisers, agenda, things discussed, action points like networking, etc. Apart from notes, I take screenshots of the presentations to revise later. If I need to export this content, I would like to have it as is, meaning that the formatting and all the content including images, uploaded PDFs, links, etc are included and usable. I also would like to have the info of the organisers/presenters linked to a People function - like the old mem v1.0 has/had - which can list every interaction with them across the mediums and notes. Also, if I had info linked to any of this, bi-directional linking is needed so I can have references and tie everything together. As such I'm looking for something similar but with the original functionalities of mem v1.0 and improved usability as per below: CAPTUREBrowser extension, mobile, IM or keyboard shortcut if desktop app available Calendar integration, including having a side panel Media insertion and export with notes with Markdown, searchable would be a plus SORTINGExistence of an Inbox Useful search with decent level of granularity Excellent organisation options with a mix of folders and collections/tags, and able to edit, sort, multiselect them PROCESSINGGreat editor, with Markdown and toggle function; natural language also welcome Notes side by side - a must -, with adjustable sizing and position Bi-directional links - a must - Table of contents a good to have Tasks with subtasks, including bi-directional linking Option for templates for automation PDF reading and OCR Media to be resized and exported if possible Tabs (optional) Whiteboard (optional) SHARINGShare options that maintain the original formatting, whatever the OS/web OVERALL FUNCTIONALITIESKeyboard shortcuts Markdown All OS/web (if possible), but priority to web, Win (desktop), Android Tabs (optional) Whiteboard (optional) Offline (optional) AI (optional) I've tried a battalion of apps in these last 2 years, from Notion (too much), ClickUp (has great integrations within the app, but somehow seems too editable), Obsidian (lost in the plugin world configuration), Amplenote (couldn't work with their UI), Tana, Capacities, Walling etc. I've tried more visual apps like Constella, Albus, Miro, Heptabase and Milanote (which I really like), but the latter hasn't progressed that much for a paid version, and you can't have bi-directional linking in a simple but effective way. I'm curious about Kortex but, although it has a good baseline, it still has some bugs on the usage of the panes, and the table of co

MemAI alternatives?

Hi guys, Today my trial period expired and I'd like to know if any Mem's alternative exists. I liked the way the app "philosophy": write a note with your thoughts, and we'll do the organizing for you. And I found the AI chat so useful in gaining a bigger understanding of myself and my business, especially for being able to ask the IA things like: "How could I solve X issue, using the knowledge/resources I already have (and that I have told you)?"I see it like a "thinking assistant", or something like that... BUT, although I do not rationally know why, my intuition tells me not to renew, and find another similar app. Maybe I'm afraid of possible technical vulnerabilities and my content being exposed, but I'm not sure that's the main reason I want to try another thing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance ;)

Curious about your quick capture workflow

Occasionally I’m in the middle of something where I don’t want to stop but really want to capture a thought that will fit well into my obsidian vault. I just want to capture a handful of words so later I can revisit it and create a proper note for self on the topic. This usually happens when my phone is with me, not on a computer. I’m using an iPhone. Wish I could do a long press of the app to bring up an option to insert into today’s note as a “review these”. I don’t know if I like the idea of creating a new note for these as I later have to remember to find it and work on it. I’m playing around with options. What have you found to be the best way to very quickly capture these into Obsidian so you can later work on it a bit more to connect dots and incorporate into your work?

Most people treat their notes apps as digital graveyards. Ten thousand entries, zero connections. Static filing cabinets masquerading as second brains.
You map a link. You draw a graph. Six months later, you stare at a screen full of nodes that know nothing. The system waits for your manual input while your actual knowledge decays in the dark.
The real story isn't in the interface. It's in the backend logic: STDP - Spike-Timing-Dependent Plasticity. Instead of manual hierarchies, a reinforcement loop strengthens note connections based on how often agents retrieve them. The structure auto-prunes while you sleep.
The stack is simple: a local Llama-3-8B instance on a cloud GPU (around $0.40/hr), hooked into a persistent Python agent loop that treats your notes as a live vector database. Offload synthesis to an autonomous background process that feeds off your activity logs. It costs pennies in API tokens to achieve what hours of manual tagging never could.

Looking for the best way to quickly capture notes on a phone and save them to Obsidian on PC

The main issue I have with Obsidian is fast capturing my thoughts. The mobile Obsidian app feels too slow for me when I just need to quickly write something down. Right now, I use Apple Notes when I need to capture something immediately. I know there are apps that can sync Apple Notes to Obsidian, but the ones I have seen come with various drawbacks. I was considering a very simple app where I can just open it, type something, and have it sent directly to my Obsidian vault located on my PC. At the moment, I am looking into simple note-capturing apps that can send notes to Git, since my Obsidian vault is synced through Git. Before I overcomplicate this, I would like to hear how others have solved fast note capture for Obsidian, especially on mobile. Thank you!
I think I solved note-taking completely… or maybe I’m just hallucinating.

Hey everyone, I’ve spent the last months obsessing over a problem that’s been ruining my productivity: I often get my best ideas when I’m not near my phone: walking, commuting, switching tasks, brushing teeth, whatever and by the time I reach my device, the idea is gone forever. So I started digging deeper, interviewing people, running experiments…
And I arrived at a very strange conclusion: The biggest note-taking problem isn’t organizing notes.
It’s capturing them before they disappear. Some people use Drafts, some use Voice Memos, some use Notion quick capture, but almost everyone I talked to said the same thing: “My tools are great once the idea is inside the app…
but getting the idea into the app is the bottleneck.” That made me wonder: Is the true enemy of note-taking the first 2 seconds? The tiny friction between spark and capture. So I’d love to ask this community directly: -Do you also lose ideas before you can capture them? -What’s the fastest method you currently use? -Does the idea-capture bottleneck matter, or is it just me coping? -If someone actually solved instant capture, would that change anything about how you take notes? For anyone interested in the research interviews I’m collecting, here’s the page I’m using: https://getnotering.com(just research and mods approved.) Really appreciate any thoughts. This community probably has the most real-world experience with note-taking friction.
