I’m experimenting with combining historical market data + archived news headlines to test event-driven trading strategies.
Currently testing NewsData.io Historical API because it supports historical news searches with filters and global coverage.
Curious how others are handling:
news sentiment scoring
duplicate filtering
time alignment
historical event tagging

“Politician stock/crypto trade tracking” anybody have direct experience with the topic?
90% matchI am doing well so far in life for my age, but I do have much to learn yet. Which brings me here for input and discussion.
I keep seeing ads pop up for people/companys offering service/data of the best stock traders in the world (our politicians unfortunately), showcasing their trades for you to copy and then make a good return.
I am aware of the time delay being the first rebuttal on why you shouldn’t even bother with it. Which has been why I haven’t been.
I don’t know enough to argue against that, but am curious if anyone does and if so, which company are you getting your trade info from?
I have been looking into Altoneer - does anyone know anything about them, have any direct experience with using their service? If so how is it going? Reviews?

What alt data do you use? I've been using Koyfin, Paradox Intelligence, and Quandl (Nasdaq now) for low-latency alternative data in HFT. What else for real-time APIs for search or social data? Advice pls.

Recommend a news API with sentiment score
88% matchHi everyone, I'm trying to find a news with sentiment score API but they all that I have seen require subscriptions and memberships. I have seen some reviews of Polygon.io saying their news feed is outdated by months, I've seen financialmodelingprep.com as well but their news feed on all their levels is 15minutes delayed. IBKR API (which is horrific to use) does not return sentiment scores according to their API docs (I simply can't get the API in c#.net working at all to fetch news in anyway).
So any platform you use that does return live news feed with sentiment scores, and you have used that API successfully?

how can i track trades made by indian politicians?
85% match
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, announces an upcoming feature to track Indian politicians' asset holdings in real-time, inspired by U.S. tools that monitor trades by figures like Nancy Pelosi for potential profit replication.
The tool builds on mandatory election affidavits in India, where politicians disclose assets publicly, but extends to ongoing monitoring amid challenges like family proxies and limited transparency.

Best low cost API for Fundamental Data
85% matchI used to use Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) but cancelled my subscription when they decided to rise the price of the data I was using and made many data points part of a higher cost subscription.
I am looking for a reliable alternative to FMP that has all of the same data as FMP. Ideally I would like to pay no more than $50 a month for the data.
I use the API in Google Sheets so it would need to be something that could integrate with Sheets.
The data I need is normalized fundamental data going back at least 10 years (earnings reports, etc.), historic price and volume data, insider trading data, news mentions, options data would be nice, ideally basic economic data, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions that you have used and can personally vouch for?

Best financial news websocket?
85% matchI'm looking for a good financial news websocket. I tried Polygon's API and while it's good for quotes, it is not good for news. Here are some actual examples from the API. The problem is all of these are summaries hours after the news, not the actual news.
- "Apple was the big tech laggard of the week, missing out on the rally following analyst downgrades and warnings about weak iPhone sales in China.""
- "Shares of SoftBank-owned Arm Holdings also jumped 15% this week in response to the Stargate project announcement."
- "Trump's Taiwan Comments Rattle Markets, Analysts Warn Of Global Inflation And More: This Week In Economics - Benzinga"
Here is what I'm ACTUALLY looking for:
- "Analyst downgrades AAPL" -- the second the downgrade was made, with the new price target
- "Stargate project announced" -- the second the Stargate project is announced, with the official announcement text
- "Trump commented X about Taiwan" -- the second he made that comment publicly, with the text of the comment he made
- "Trump announces tariffs" -- the second it is announced
Appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Interesting proprietary financial databases to create AI/ML models?
85% matchI'm currently working on a project and looking for financial databases that house proprietary data that might be interesting to have for developing models, whether at the consumer or institution level. Some examples include Bloomberg (they actually built their BloombergGPT thanks to their corpus) or Quandl (for alternative data).
If you've come across any noteworthy private datasets that you think might be interesting to have, I'd love to know!
p.s: skewing more towards smaller companies or organizations
