What Reveddit Shows, and How to See Deleted Reddit PostsWhat Reveddit Shows, and How to See Deleted Reddit Posts

TL;DR

7 min read

Reveddit is a site that reveals Reddit content removed by moderators, and its own documentation states plainly that it does not show user-deleted content. Thread and subreddit pages depend on the Pushshift archive, which has been restricted since 2023 and whose comment retention changed in 2021. A September 2025 Reddit update let moderator removals strip content from the author's public profile too, which broke the website's main tracking method and left the browser extension as the working route.

How do you see deleted Reddit posts?

The honest answer to how to see deleted Reddit posts is that nothing recovers a comment its author deleted, and Reveddit, the best known tool in this space, does not claim otherwise. Its FAQ opens with the scope in one line: "Reveddit reveals content removed from Reddit by moderators. It does not show user-deleted content." Everything else on this page follows from that sentence.

The split matters because the two words describe two different actors, as removed versus deleted on Reddit sets out in full. A moderator or filter removes content, and the author is the only person who can delete it. Removal leaves a copy somewhere a third party can sometimes reach. Deletion does not, which is why every tool in this category is really a removal viewer wearing a deletion-shaped search result.

What is Reveddit and how do you use it?

Reveddit is a website that shows which Reddit posts and comments were removed by moderators, automated filters or Reddit itself. To use it, insert ve or just v into the URL of any Reddit page, so reddit.com/user/example becomes reveddit.com/user/example. It covers user pages, subreddits and threads. In September 2025 its creator put usage at 250,000 monthly users of the site and 10,000 users of the companion browser extension.

The site labels each removal with what it can prove about the cause. [removed] by mod means the archive holds the comment body and the removal came from a moderator. [removed] automatically means the archive caught the item soon after creation and it was already gone. [removed] by mod/auto, formerly shown as unknown, is the honest shrug: the archive fell behind and Reveddit cannot tell a manual removal from an AutoModerator or spam-filter catch.

A person scrolls through archived web pages on a laptop, echoing how third-party archives fill the gaps Reddit itself does not.

What did Pushshift's restriction change for Reveddit?

Reveddit's thread and subreddit pages depend on an outside archive, and that archive is Pushshift. The FAQ states the dependency and the disclaimer together: viewing removed content for subreddits and threads relies on an archive service called Pushshift, which is part of the Network Contagion Research Institute, and Reveddit is unaffiliated with it. Pushshift can fall behind, fail to archive an item, or go offline, and a comment removed before it was archived may never appear at all.

That dependency is the weak joint, because Pushshift's own terms now restrict access to registered Reddit moderators acting for moderation purposes, and its public dump series ended at March 2023. A second change bites even harder on threads: the FAQ records that the archive altered its comment retention behavior around September 2021, with the result that comments in threads may not be visible after about a day and a half. Open a two-year-old thread on Reveddit and expect gaps, not a transcript.

User pages behave differently, and that difference is the useful part. The FAQ notes that a /user page is always up to date because it relies only on data from Reddit, not on the archive. Reveddit also offers a Restore button on removed comments in threads, which searches the user pages of nearby authors for items the archive missed and labels anything it finds restored via user page. For corpus-scale work the archive question has a separate answer in Arctic Shift, which publishes free monthly dumps continuing the Pushshift series.

Timeline of Reveddit's data losses
1
September 2021. Pushshift changes its comment retention, so thread pages may lose comments after about a day and a half.
2
March 2023. Pushshift's public dump series ends and access narrows to registered moderators.
3
September 2025. Reddit lets moderator removals strip content from the author's public profile, breaking Reveddit's user pages.
4
2026. Reveddit's website falls back to a limited public method Reddit may cut off, while the browser extension keeps working.
Each step narrowed what Reveddit's website could still show, until the browser extension became the reliable route.

Why did Reveddit stop finding removed comments in 2025?

Reddit changed what a moderator removal does, and it took the site's main mechanism with it. In September 2025, Reddit's announcement Evolving Moderation on Reddit: Reshaping Boundaries described the old behavior and the new one in a single paragraph: "Today, when you remove content from your community, that content continues to appear on the user profile until it's reported and additionally removed by Reddit. But with this update, the action you take in your community is now the final word; you'll no longer need to appeal to admins to fully remove that content across Reddit." The post's summary table is blunter still. Content removed by mods is now "Fully removed from Reddit, visible only to the original poster and your mod team".

Reveddit's user pages worked because removed comments used to survive on the author's public profile. Once they stopped surviving there, the site lost its view. Reveddit's creator published the consequence days later: the change broke the website's ability to track your removed content, and the Reveddit Real-Time browser extension was updated and works again for that purpose. The site now carries a standing banner saying Reddit restricts websites' access to its data, that since 2026 Reveddit's website relies on a limited public fallback Reddit may cut off at any time, and that the extension is unaffected.

Two practical consequences follow. Check your own removals through the extension rather than the site, and treat any thread page you load as a partial view. If you would rather test the behavior than read about it, Reveddit's creator maintains r/CantSayAnything, where every post and comment is removed automatically, so you can post there, see your own content looking normal while logged in, and watch it vanish in a logged-out window.

What can no tool recover?

Author deletions, and that is the whole list worth memorizing. Reveddit's FAQ states that user-deleted content never appears on its user pages, and that only Reddit's delete button removes content from Reveddit. One exception exists and it is narrow: titles and links of user-deleted submissions still show on thread pages, never the username, on the reasoning that a title and a link are the minimum context for reviewing a discussion. Reddit began overwriting even those on three-month-old deleted posts in early 2022.

Order of operations decides the rest. If a moderator removes a comment and the author then deletes it, the FAQ says it disappears from Reveddit user pages and may still appear in threads, because the Reddit API has no way to signal that an author deleted a mod-removed comment. Four other categories are out of reach: content in banned subreddits, Reddit live and chat comments, collapsed comments on user pages, which the FAQ says work for some accounts and not others, and removals caused by an account suspension, which the Reddit API does not distinguish, so Reveddit cannot mark them. A sitewide suspension also differs from the subreddit-level hiding described in the Reddit shadowban guide, and only the second one leaves a per-subreddit pattern you can read off a profile.

A phone lights up with a new email alert on a desk, standing in for the notification a monitoring tool sends the moment a mention appears.

What should you do instead of hunting for deleted posts?

Capture the conversation while it exists, because retrieval is a losing game by construction. Every tool on this page reads an archive or a profile after the fact, and both have now been narrowed by the platform. A thread you recorded at the moment it was posted needs no archive at all.

Frequently asked questions

Does Reveddit show deleted Reddit comments?

No. Reveddit's own FAQ states that it reveals content removed by moderators and does not show user-deleted content, and that user-deleted content never appears on its user pages. A comment its author deleted is gone from every public route, including Reveddit.

Is Reveddit still working?

Partly. The website carries a banner saying Reddit restricts websites' access to its data and that Reveddit's site has relied on a limited public fallback since 2026 which Reddit may cut off at any time. The Reveddit Real-Time browser extension was updated after the September 2025 Reddit change and is the route its creator points people to.

How do you use Reveddit on a Reddit URL?

Insert ve or just v into the URL of any Reddit page, so reddit.com becomes reveddit.com. That works for user pages, subreddits and threads. User pages are the most reliable of the three, since the FAQ notes they rely only on data from Reddit rather than on the outside archive.

Why does Reveddit show nothing for an old thread?

The archive behind thread pages changed its comment retention around September 2021, and Reveddit's FAQ says comments in threads may not be visible after about a day and a half as a result. Add that the archive can fall behind or miss items entirely, and old threads come back thin. User pages are unaffected by that limit.

What does the mod/auto label mean on Reveddit?

It means Reveddit cannot tell who removed the item. The label, formerly shown as unknown, is applied when the archive fell behind or failed to retrieve the data, leaving no way to separate a manual moderator removal from an AutoModerator or spam-filter catch. A [removed] by mod label means the archive held the comment body.

Can moderators see what a Reveddit user sees?

Moderators see more, not less. Removed items stay in their community's mod queue with the text intact, and since the September 2025 update Reddit describes mod-removed content as visible only to the original poster and the mod team. Reveddit exists because the author is the one person that arrangement keeps in the dark, since Reddit sends no notice unless a moderator attaches a removal reason.

How many people use Reveddit?

In September 2025, Reveddit's creator put the website's usage at 250,000 monthly users and the browser extension's at 10,000 users. That smaller base matters now, since the extension is the tool the creator recommends after Reddit's 2025 change broke part of the website's tracking.

What does the Restore button do on Reveddit?

The Restore button appears on removed comments in threads and searches the user pages of nearby authors for copies the Pushshift archive missed. Anything it finds gets labeled 'restored via user page' rather than pulled from the archive itself. It works around Pushshift's gaps by leaning on user pages, which stay current because they draw only on Reddit's own data.

Does Reveddit mark anything differently for a suspended Reddit account?

Reveddit cannot mark it, since the Reddit API gives no way to distinguish a suspension from an ordinary moderator removal. Suspension-driven removals appear unmarked, indistinguishable from routine ones. The FAQ notes it under its unknown removed label, separate from its list of untracked content.

What is r/CantSayAnything for?

It's a subreddit that Reveddit's creator maintains where every post and comment gets removed automatically. Posting there lets you see your own content look normal while logged in, then watch it vanish when you view the same page logged out. It's a way to test how removal behaves without reading about it.
